The Victoria Camera Club (VCC) won the 2020 Lion’s Gate Celebration of Nature photographic competition held this past November. We beat 23 other clubs from BC and the Yukon who submitted a total of 191 images.
The Lion’s Gate Celebration of Nature Photographic Competition is one of the premier natural history contests held in Canada. As opposed to most photo competitions, Lion’s Gate is only open to camera clubs and photographic societies – submissions by individual photographers are not permitted. Each club enters eight nature/wildlife images by eight different members.
The club came in first place with a score of 189, three points over second place. Steve Smith from Sidney, had the highest scoring image and the 1st Best in Show and 1st in Wildlife with “Grizzly Cubs Playfighting”. Evan Guengerich of Saanich had the 3rd Best in Show and 2nd in wildlife with “Epic Struggle”.
