Join Caitlyn Chapman, Thursday November 9th at Presenter’s Night as she talks about:

Creativity in Photography: Think Outside the Camera

When the pixel-peeping and gear-lust take over, your photographs suffer. Let’s talk about the creative side of photography. How can we nurture our creative soul? By getting out of our comfort zones, trying new & wacky techniques, and shooting from the heart (and yes, perhaps the hip!).
I have a few favourite ways of inspiring my own creativity. One is to spend time with other creative people… not other photographers, but painters, hairstylists, makeup artists, musicians, and the like.
As a portrait & fashion photographer, I come across these people often. Just a coffee date with my favourite makeup artist, for example, is enough to have me racing home to start a new mood board.
Using creative techniques -trying new or different techniques in my work that I wouldn’t normally attempt- can create paths to new ways of seeing or thinking. Also, shooting for myself. It is easy to get caught up in what other people- clients, family, society, want to see you create. Remember to quiet the noise, listen to your own inner voice, and create your own vision.
Photography is an interesting art form in that it is technical- capable of both pure, factual documentation and fine art expression. How can we get the most out of using photography as our creative outlet and create our best work? By starting with constantly changing our viewing angle- literally and metaphorically… in how we shoot, and in how we view our work. Shoot from a place of growth and you will be amazed at what you create- let’s talk about freeing ourselves to create with love and joy!”
